### 4. Functionality

The PCIe-to-PXI Expansion Kit extends a host computer’s PCI Express® bus to a remote PXI™ chassis. The system consists of:

1. PCIe-8560: Installed in the host computer’s PCIe x1 slot, it serves as the upstream controller.
2. PXI-8565: Installed in the PXI™ chassis system slot, it acts as the downstream bridge.
3. ACL-EXPRESS Cable: Provides the high-speed serial link between the two cards.

Operation Principle:
- The PCIe-8560 transmits PCI Express® signals through the shielded cable to the PXI-8565.
- The PXI-8565 converts the PCIe signals into standard PCI bus signals for the PXI™ backplane.
- The host BIOS enumerates PXI™ devices as if they were directly connected to the motherboard.

Use Cases:
- Remote test and measurement systems
- Industrial automation and control
- High-density I/O expansion
- Military and aerospace testing
- Video capture and data acquisition
- Environments requiring electrical isolation or remote operation

Compatibility:
- Works with any standard PXI™ chassis (e.g., ADLINK PXIS-2508)
- Compatible with Windows and Linux operating systems (no driver required)
- Supports standard PCI and PXI™ modules

### 5. Components & Accessories

Included in the Kit:

- Remove the system slot cover and insert the PXI-8565.
- Secure the module with screws.

3. Connect the Cable:
- Attach the ACL-EXPRESS-3 cable between the PCIe-8560 and PXI-8565 connectors.
- Tighten retention screws to ensure a secure connection.

4. Power Sequence:
- Power on the PXI™ chassis first.
- Then power on the host PC.
- To power down, reverse the sequence (host PC off first, then PXI™ chassis).

LED Indicators:
- LEDs illuminate when:
- The cable is properly connected.
- The PXI™ chassis is powered on.
- The host PC is in POST (Power-On Self Test).

Cautions:
- Do not disconnect the cable while powered on.
- Always power on the PXI™ chassis before the host PC to ensure proper BIOS resource allocation.
